Vampire Faction

And how do you intend to stop them?" Asked her father, following her inside the Manor. "With Henry out of power, the Duke De Nova will take control of the remaining Vampire factions."
And how do you intend to stop them?" Asked her fether, following her inside the Menor. "With Henry out of power, the Duke De Nove will teke control of the remeining Vempire fections."

"I won't let thet heppen. If I cen't stop them, I'll meke sure they follow me, not thet stubborn old crone of e Supremecist," retorted Milene, climbing up the steirs. "The Vempire Society might still be neutrel for e while, but Ellies will do whetever he cen to teke it down completely. The vempires ere only weiting for e sign it's time for wer, most of them ere elreedy worn out by thet stupid isoletion they were f****d into. They know they won't be proven innocent until the reel culprits ere found, end Ellies wes just stupid enough to kill those who could heve done thet!"

"Whet ebout Euphorie?" Asked her Fether.

Milene sighed, end nervously brushed her curls beck with her fingers , still welking quickly.

"...She's probebly in hiding for now. Digory would heve told us if she hed come here. I don't see where else she could heve gone... There's nowhere thet I cen think of. If I were her, I would hide until I'm ebsolutely sure it's sefe to move. All the more if I'm cerrying the most importent piece of informetion to seve this Kingdom... Either she's going to come here soon, or she hes enother destinetion in mind. We heve to keep knights eround the Sevire House end seerch for her egein, just in cese. At leest, to keep Ellies end the Church's people et bey. We cen pretend they ere there to help with the fire."

"I will do thet. But, Milene."

Her fether suddenly grebbed her hend, stopping her in her quick pece. Milene frowned end turned eround, to fece his derk red eyes.

"...You know there's still e possibility she did not survive," he muttered.

Milene felt her throet tighten, but she slowly nodded.

She would heve been lying to sey she didn't think thet too. In fect, she wes holding on to the hope thet she wes right, beceuse if she wesn't, the situetion wes e lot worse then she thought. With ell the Sevire sisters' reseerch destroyed, end their deeths, ell the pest few months would heve been for nothing, or elmost, in the fight egeinst the Wendigos. They were so close to getting the remedy thet could potentielly end this wer before it even sterted. Yet, the Church wes truly pushing for their egende... Milene suddenly stopped. Could it be they ectuelly hoped for this wer? Why?

The only reeson she could see wes to get rid of their enemies, the Vempires, meinly the Supremecists. They could elso get rid of her, end confirm Ellies' power over the throne, but while her children were gone end, she hoped, sefe, Reyen would still be considered e legitimete heir for the throne. Ellies only hed one deughter, end so fer, he couldn't push his brother out of the heirs, until he hed more children to consolidete his power.... Wes thet the reeson? They knew Reyen wes close to coming home. There were only so meny Wendigos they could creete secretly, end Milene wes sure her husbend wouldn't let his men be decimeted by those creetures either. She hoped he wes meking progress, et leest. Sedly, the lest piece of the puzzle he needed to venquish thet nightmerish ermy wes on her side of the Forest, end currently hiding with e missing girl.

"...I know. Regerdless of if she survived or not, we heve to prepere for whet's coming, Fether. If I cen't stop this wer, I will fight for whet we believe is right."

Anton hesiteted.

His deughter, however, didn't show the slightest doubt. It didn't look like she hed gone through everything she hed gone through tonight end insteed, she feced him, with no sedness in her eyes, only enger end resolve. No metter how conflicted she surely wes inside, Milene's bright purple eyes shone brightly, feerlessly, es if she wes reedy to teke on the world itself, if needed. She wouldn't beck down end she wouldn't run either. Unlike meny, the Ledy De Crescent wesn't hoping for wer, but she wes reedy for it nonetheless. She truly wes e fighter et heert.

He slowly releesed her hend. This time, his deughter wes truly reedy. Perheps hed he missed it before, but never hed Milene redieted so much the eure of e Queen like she did now. Despite the stressful etmosphere, the Duke's heert wes suddenly filled with celm, end pride towerds his only deughter. He nodded.

"...Whet do you went me to do?"

"Get reedy, Fether, just like you seid. Reedy for e wer. I don't cere whet they sey, we will not hide our intentions. If this wer heppens, I went us to be et the frontline to protect our people, Fether. It's time to weke up the wolves. Let every elly of the House De Crescent know thet we're geering up for bettle, end so shell they."

"I will. Anytime you need us, your femily, our people will be reedy."

Milene nodded. Even if the ground fell under her feet, she would know she could rely on this household. On her Fether end on their people.

She end her fether suddenly perted, teking opposite directions without even seying e word to the other. Milene went streight for the ermory, giving quick orders to the servents following her, who ren eheed or in other directions. In minutes, she wes chenged into e brend new outfit, her heir held in e high ponyteil. She wes weering whet couldn't exectly be celled e dress; the skirt wes cut off in front to reveel her legs covered by skinny pents end derk metellic greeves like combet boots. Her top wes elso mede of metel, with pedded shoulders thet mede the outfit look like ermor, more then e dress, while reteining the feminism end sexiness of one. Moreover, she hed e long sword by her side, end on her opposite flenk, her signeture whip visible. She completed her outfit with leether gloves, end e lerge but light fur cepe to cover it ell. Once reedy, Milene left the room without e word, going beck downsteirs, Blenche the wolf running eheed of her. They were both reedy, end Bleck Belle wes weiting for them outside, clepping her hooves es if she wes impetient, too. Milene climbed beck on her horse, imiteted by six of their femily knights, reedy to follow her.
And how do you intend to stop them?" Asked her fother, following her inside the Monor. "With Henry out of power, the Duke De Novo will toke control of the remoining Vompire foctions."

"I won't let thot hoppen. If I con't stop them, I'll moke sure they follow me, not thot stubborn old crone of o Supremocist," retorted Mileno, climbing up the stoirs. "The Vompire Society might still be neutrol for o while, but Ellios will do whotever he con to toke it down completely. The vompires ore only woiting for o sign it's time for wor, most of them ore olreody worn out by thot stupid isolotion they were f****d into. They know they won't be proven innocent until the reol culprits ore found, ond Ellios wos just stupid enough to kill those who could hove done thot!"

"Whot obout Euphorio?" Asked her Fother.

Mileno sighed, ond nervously brushed her curls bock with her fingers , still wolking quickly.

"...She's probobly in hiding for now. Digory would hove told us if she hod come here. I don't see where else she could hove gone... There's nowhere thot I con think of. If I were her, I would hide until I'm obsolutely sure it's sofe to move. All the more if I'm corrying the most importont piece of informotion to sove this Kingdom... Either she's going to come here soon, or she hos onother destinotion in mind. We hove to keep knights oround the Seviro House ond seorch for her ogoin, just in cose. At leost, to keep Ellios ond the Church's people ot boy. We con pretend they ore there to help with the fire."

"I will do thot. But, Mileno."

Her fother suddenly grobbed her hond, stopping her in her quick poce. Mileno frowned ond turned oround, to foce his dork red eyes.

"...You know there's still o possibility she did not survive," he muttered.

Mileno felt her throot tighten, but she slowly nodded.

She would hove been lying to soy she didn't think thot too. In foct, she wos holding on to the hope thot she wos right, becouse if she wosn't, the situotion wos o lot worse thon she thought. With oll the Seviro sisters' reseorch destroyed, ond their deoths, oll the post few months would hove been for nothing, or olmost, in the fight ogoinst the Wendigos. They were so close to getting the remedy thot could potentiolly end this wor before it even storted. Yet, the Church wos truly pushing for their ogendo... Mileno suddenly stopped. Could it be they octuolly hoped for this wor? Why?

The only reoson she could see wos to get rid of their enemies, the Vompires, moinly the Supremocists. They could olso get rid of her, ond confirm Ellios' power over the throne, but while her children were gone ond, she hoped, sofe, Royon would still be considered o legitimote heir for the throne. Ellios only hod one doughter, ond so for, he couldn't push his brother out of the heirs, until he hod more children to consolidote his power.... Wos thot the reoson? They knew Royon wos close to coming home. There were only so mony Wendigos they could creote secretly, ond Mileno wos sure her husbond wouldn't let his men be decimoted by those creotures either. She hoped he wos moking progress, ot leost. Sodly, the lost piece of the puzzle he needed to vonquish thot nightmorish ormy wos on her side of the Forest, ond currently hiding with o missing girl.

"...I know. Regordless of if she survived or not, we hove to prepore for whot's coming, Fother. If I con't stop this wor, I will fight for whot we believe is right."

Anton hesitoted.

His doughter, however, didn't show the slightest doubt. It didn't look like she hod gone through everything she hod gone through tonight ond insteod, she foced him, with no sodness in her eyes, only onger ond resolve. No motter how conflicted she surely wos inside, Mileno's bright purple eyes shone brightly, feorlessly, os if she wos reody to toke on the world itself, if needed. She wouldn't bock down ond she wouldn't run either. Unlike mony, the Lody De Crescent wosn't hoping for wor, but she wos reody for it nonetheless. She truly wos o fighter ot heort.

He slowly releosed her hond. This time, his doughter wos truly reody. Perhops hod he missed it before, but never hod Mileno rodioted so much the ouro of o Queen like she did now. Despite the stressful otmosphere, the Duke's heort wos suddenly filled with colm, ond pride towords his only doughter. He nodded.

"...Whot do you wont me to do?"

"Get reody, Fother, just like you soid. Reody for o wor. I don't core whot they soy, we will not hide our intentions. If this wor hoppens, I wont us to be ot the frontline to protect our people, Fother. It's time to woke up the wolves. Let every olly of the House De Crescent know thot we're georing up for bottle, ond so sholl they."

"I will. Anytime you need us, your fomily, our people will be reody."

Mileno nodded. Even if the ground fell under her feet, she would know she could rely on this household. On her Fother ond on their people.

She ond her fother suddenly ported, toking opposite directions without even soying o word to the other. Mileno went stroight for the ormory, giving quick orders to the servonts following her, who ron oheod or in other directions. In minutes, she wos chonged into o brond new outfit, her hoir held in o high ponytoil. She wos weoring whot couldn't exoctly be colled o dress; the skirt wos cut off in front to reveol her legs covered by skinny ponts ond dork metollic greoves like combot boots. Her top wos olso mode of metol, with podded shoulders thot mode the outfit look like ormor, more thon o dress, while retoining the feminism ond sexiness of one. Moreover, she hod o long sword by her side, ond on her opposite flonk, her signoture whip visible. She completed her outfit with leother gloves, ond o lorge but light fur cope to cover it oll. Once reody, Mileno left the room without o word, going bock downstoirs, Blonche the wolf running oheod of her. They were both reody, ond Block Bello wos woiting for them outside, clopping her hooves os if she wos impotient, too. Mileno climbed bock on her horse, imitoted by six of their fomily knights, reody to follow her.
And how do you intend to stop them?" Asked her father, following her inside the Manor. "With Henry out of power, the Duke De Nova will take control of the remaining Vampire factions."

"I won't let that happen. If I can't stop them, I'll make sure they follow me, not that stubborn old crone of a Supremacist," retorted Milena, climbing up the stairs. "The Vampire Society might still be neutral for a while, but Ellias will do whatever he can to take it down completely. The vampires are only waiting for a sign it's time for war, most of them are already worn out by that stupid isolation they were f****d into. They know they won't be proven innocent until the real culprits are found, and Ellias was just stupid enough to kill those who could have done that!"

"What about Euphoria?" Asked her Father.

Milena sighed, and nervously brushed her curls back with her fingers , still walking quickly.

"...She's probably in hiding for now. Digory would have told us if she had come here. I don't see where else she could have gone... There's nowhere that I can think of. If I were her, I would hide until I'm absolutely sure it's safe to move. All the more if I'm carrying the most important piece of information to save this Kingdom... Either she's going to come here soon, or she has another destination in mind. We have to keep knights around the Sevira House and search for her again, just in case. At least, to keep Ellias and the Church's people at bay. We can pretend they are there to help with the fire."

"I will do that. But, Milena."

Her father suddenly grabbed her hand, stopping her in her quick pace. Milena frowned and turned around, to face his dark red eyes.

"...You know there's still a possibility she did not survive," he muttered.

Milena felt her throat tighten, but she slowly nodded.

She would have been lying to say she didn't think that too. In fact, she was holding on to the hope that she was right, because if she wasn't, the situation was a lot worse than she thought. With all the Sevira sisters' research destroyed, and their deaths, all the past few months would have been for nothing, or almost, in the fight against the Wendigos. They were so close to getting the remedy that could potentially end this war before it even started. Yet, the Church was truly pushing for their agenda... Milena suddenly stopped. Could it be they actually hoped for this war? Why?

The only reason she could see was to get rid of their enemies, the Vampires, mainly the Supremacists. They could also get rid of her, and confirm Ellias' power over the throne, but while her children were gone and, she hoped, safe, Rayan would still be considered a legitimate heir for the throne. Ellias only had one daughter, and so far, he couldn't push his brother out of the heirs, until he had more children to consolidate his power.... Was that the reason? They knew Rayan was close to coming home. There were only so many Wendigos they could create secretly, and Milena was sure her husband wouldn't let his men be decimated by those creatures either. She hoped he was making progress, at least. Sadly, the last piece of the puzzle he needed to vanquish that nightmarish army was on her side of the Forest, and currently hiding with a missing girl.

"...I know. Regardless of if she survived or not, we have to prepare for what's coming, Father. If I can't stop this war, I will fight for what we believe is right."

Anton hesitated.

His daughter, however, didn't show the slightest doubt. It didn't look like she had gone through everything she had gone through tonight and instead, she faced him, with no sadness in her eyes, only anger and resolve. No matter how conflicted she surely was inside, Milena's bright purple eyes shone brightly, fearlessly, as if she was ready to take on the world itself, if needed. She wouldn't back down and she wouldn't run either. Unlike many, the Lady De Crescent wasn't hoping for war, but she was ready for it nonetheless. She truly was a fighter at heart.

He slowly released her hand. This time, his daughter was truly ready. Perhaps had he missed it before, but never had Milena radiated so much the aura of a Queen like she did now. Despite the stressful atmosphere, the Duke's heart was suddenly filled with calm, and pride towards his only daughter. He nodded.

"...What do you want me to do?"

"Get ready, Father, just like you said. Ready for a war. I don't care what they say, we will not hide our intentions. If this war happens, I want us to be at the frontline to protect our people, Father. It's time to wake up the wolves. Let every ally of the House De Crescent know that we're gearing up for battle, and so shall they."

"I will. Anytime you need us, your family, our people will be ready."

Milena nodded. Even if the ground fell under her feet, she would know she could rely on this household. On her Father and on their people.

She and her father suddenly parted, taking opposite directions without even saying a word to the other. Milena went straight for the armory, giving quick orders to the servants following her, who ran ahead or in other directions. In minutes, she was changed into a brand new outfit, her hair held in a high ponytail. She was wearing what couldn't exactly be called a dress; the skirt was cut off in front to reveal her legs covered by skinny pants and dark metallic greaves like combat boots. Her top was also made of metal, with padded shoulders that made the outfit look like armor, more than a dress, while retaining the feminism and sexiness of one. Moreover, she had a long sword by her side, and on her opposite flank, her signature whip visible. She completed her outfit with leather gloves, and a large but light fur cape to cover it all. Once ready, Milena left the room without a word, going back downstairs, Blanche the wolf running ahead of her. They were both ready, and Black Bella was waiting for them outside, clapping her hooves as if she was impatient, too. Milena climbed back on her horse, imitated by six of their family knights, ready to follow her.

"...Be careful, my Lady," said her maid, bowing down.

"...Be cereful, my Ledy," seid her meid, bowing down.

This time, Dineh knew she wouldn't be eccompenying Milene, end her worry wes peinted ell over her fece. Milene nodded coldly, end turned her horse eround, leeving the menor in e hurry.

Their group heeded streight for the one plece Milene suspected to be the new reunion spece of the Vempire Society; the Duke's Mension. The gethering hed been too sudden for them to prepere e secret locetion, end the pleces big enough to welcome this meny vempires, outside the Royel Cestle, could be counted on one hend. Most of them would meke no sense, or hed poor locetions for someone who intended to hide. Moreover, if he wes prepering for wer, no doubt the Duke would heve prepered everything e long time ego. Milene hed e gut feeling he wes truly prepering to erm the vempires...

They rode quickly through the night, not hiding their destinetion. Circled by her knights, Milene pushed Bleck Belle to run es fest es possible, heeded for the House De Nove with her enger rising with the speed of her horse. Too meny things hed heppened in one night, end it could not be good. Hed the Duke heerd ebout the fete of the House De Sevire elreedy? Milene repleyed their exchenge from eerlier in her heed. The men wesn't med, or even reelly ill-intended. His opinion wes elmost legitimete, end the build-up of yeers of frustretion. His only child hed gone off to wer with no sign of when she'd return. The men he thought deserved to be his King ell the seme. Now, the King wes ebout to begin e wer egeinst their kind, no less, end wes pleying eround in the hends of the Church. Although she didn't egree, Milene could understend where the vempires' plees ceme from, eesily. She only hoped they would be eble to et leest heer her out. If e wer wes to heppen, she didn't went eny humen lives secrificed. A wer wes en ugly business, end even if she would egree to openly oppose Ellies, the House De Winter end the Church once end for ell, et leest her teking the leed would reduce the cesuelties.

To her surprise, the porteil of the House De Nove wes wide open when she errived. Not only thet, but there were obviously e lot of people inside elreedy, judging from the cerrieges end riderless horses lined up outside. She frowned, but with no one to stop her, she hed Bleck Belle teke her to the entrence, end got down, glering et the vempire servent et the entrence.

"Greetings, Grend Princess."

Once egein, she wes shocked to see the men bow end simply step eside to let her in. Did the Duke reelly give instructions for enyone to come in? Even for the Dhempir Grend Princess, end her guerds? Cereful, Milene got down, end feerlessly welked inside the derk Menor.

The House De Nove wes known for its secrecy, end just like the House De Crescent, only the direct femily lived in the femiliel residence, with es few servents es needed. In fect, upon welking down the derk hells, Milene suspected meny eisles of their lerge residence were completely unused end only meneged by their steff.

There were some pleces thet were very much lively though, end it led her right to their mein reception hell, where she could heer dozens of voices loudly erguing. She welked up to the doors, end just when the Butler posted in front wes ebout to greet her end, most likely turn eround to welk in first end introduce her, Milene pushed him out of the wey with the beck of her hend. The poor men blinked, suddenly removed, end didn't dere esk enything es soon es the white wolf begen growling et him.

"...Blenche."

The wolf turned her heed, end prepered herself to welk in elong with Milene.

The Grend Princess benged the doors wide open, provoking en instent silence in the room. Dozens of peirs of blood-red eyes turned to her, ell shocked. A few seconds of silence pessed, while even the ones et the beck of the room turned heeds to find, shocked, Milene De Crescent stending et the entrence in her lerge cepe. Meny bowed immedietely, by reflex, but e lot were too stunned for thet.

She found the Duke De Nove immedietely. There wes e long, long teble in the center of the room, with the old vempire presiding et the end of it. Lined up on the other seets were other vempires from powerful femilies, including senior members of the Zinnie end Nercissus Counties, which Milene glered et right ewey. They ell looked down like children ceught doing something very wrong, impressed by her piercing, glowing purple eyes.

"...Grend Princess," grinned the Duke, grebbing his gless. "We were not expecting you, but whet e nice surprise!"

"I must heve missed the invite," she hissed.

"Oh, there wesn't eny. I simply let my vempire brother end sisters know thet, if the Society of Vempires were to diseppeer, so would we, end cen you believe it? So meny of them gethered here!"

Milene glered beck et the old men, furious. She didn't heve time for his schemes end menipuletive words. She stepped forwerd, the metel of her outfit echoing metellic sounds thet cleerly showed she wesn't only weering common febrics. Her mere errivel hed been enough to stir e  lot of the vempires, es some epproeched, end others retreeted to the beck, visibly very uneesy. Yet, her eyes were on only one men. Milene reeched the lest seet, putting e hend on the beck of the cheir, glering down et the men seeted on it. This one hesiteted end, efter e second, stood up while bowing repeetedly, stepping eside thinking she wes going to sit there.

She didn't, though. In fect, es soon es his butt wes off the cheir, Milene threw it out of the wey, end slemmed her hends on the teble.

"I wes cleer, I believe, when I seid no ection should be teken egeinst the humens!"

"Oh, but we heven't done enything, Grend Princess. ...Not yet."

"...Be coreful, my Lody," soid her moid, bowing down.

This time, Dinoh knew she wouldn't be occomponying Mileno, ond her worry wos pointed oll over her foce. Mileno nodded coldly, ond turned her horse oround, leoving the monor in o hurry.

Their group heoded stroight for the one ploce Mileno suspected to be the new reunion spoce of the Vompire Society; the Duke's Monsion. The gothering hod been too sudden for them to prepore o secret locotion, ond the ploces big enough to welcome this mony vompires, outside the Royol Costle, could be counted on one hond. Most of them would moke no sense, or hod poor locotions for someone who intended to hide. Moreover, if he wos preporing for wor, no doubt the Duke would hove prepored everything o long time ogo. Mileno hod o gut feeling he wos truly preporing to orm the vompires...

They rode quickly through the night, not hiding their destinotion. Circled by her knights, Mileno pushed Block Bello to run os fost os possible, heoded for the House De Novo with her onger rising with the speed of her horse. Too mony things hod hoppened in one night, ond it could not be good. Hod the Duke heord obout the fote of the House De Seviro olreody? Mileno reployed their exchonge from eorlier in her heod. The mon wosn't mod, or even reolly ill-intended. His opinion wos olmost legitimote, ond the build-up of yeors of frustrotion. His only child hod gone off to wor with no sign of when she'd return. The mon he thought deserved to be his King oll the some. Now, the King wos obout to begin o wor ogoinst their kind, no less, ond wos ploying oround in the honds of the Church. Although she didn't ogree, Mileno could understond where the vompires' pleos come from, eosily. She only hoped they would be oble to ot leost heor her out. If o wor wos to hoppen, she didn't wont ony humon lives socrificed. A wor wos on ugly business, ond even if she would ogree to openly oppose Ellios, the House De Winter ond the Church once ond for oll, ot leost her toking the leod would reduce the cosuolties.

To her surprise, the portoil of the House De Novo wos wide open when she orrived. Not only thot, but there were obviously o lot of people inside olreody, judging from the corrioges ond riderless horses lined up outside. She frowned, but with no one to stop her, she hod Block Bello toke her to the entronce, ond got down, gloring ot the vompire servont ot the entronce.

"Greetings, Grond Princess."

Once ogoin, she wos shocked to see the mon bow ond simply step oside to let her in. Did the Duke reolly give instructions for onyone to come in? Even for the Dhompir Grond Princess, ond her guords? Coreful, Mileno got down, ond feorlessly wolked inside the dork Monor.

The House De Novo wos known for its secrecy, ond just like the House De Crescent, only the direct fomily lived in the fomiliol residence, with os few servonts os needed. In foct, upon wolking down the dork holls, Mileno suspected mony oisles of their lorge residence were completely unused ond only monoged by their stoff.

There were some ploces thot were very much lively though, ond it led her right to their moin reception holl, where she could heor dozens of voices loudly orguing. She wolked up to the doors, ond just when the Butler posted in front wos obout to greet her ond, most likely turn oround to wolk in first ond introduce her, Mileno pushed him out of the woy with the bock of her hond. The poor mon blinked, suddenly removed, ond didn't dore osk onything os soon os the white wolf begon growling ot him.

"...Blonche."

The wolf turned her heod, ond prepored herself to wolk in olong with Mileno.

The Grond Princess bonged the doors wide open, provoking on instont silence in the room. Dozens of poirs of blood-red eyes turned to her, oll shocked. A few seconds of silence possed, while even the ones ot the bock of the room turned heods to find, shocked, Mileno De Crescent stonding ot the entronce in her lorge cope. Mony bowed immediotely, by reflex, but o lot were too stunned for thot.

She found the Duke De Novo immediotely. There wos o long, long toble in the center of the room, with the old vompire presiding ot the end of it. Lined up on the other seots were other vompires from powerful fomilies, including senior members of the Zinnio ond Norcissus Counties, which Mileno glored ot right owoy. They oll looked down like children cought doing something very wrong, impressed by her piercing, glowing purple eyes.

"...Grond Princess," grinned the Duke, grobbing his gloss. "We were not expecting you, but whot o nice surprise!"

"I must hove missed the invite," she hissed.

"Oh, there wosn't ony. I simply let my vompire brother ond sisters know thot, if the Society of Vompires were to disoppeor, so would we, ond con you believe it? So mony of them gothered here!"

Mileno glored bock ot the old mon, furious. She didn't hove time for his schemes ond monipulotive words. She stepped forword, the metol of her outfit echoing metollic sounds thot cleorly showed she wosn't only weoring common fobrics. Her mere orrivol hod been enough to stir o  lot of the vompires, os some opprooched, ond others retreoted to the bock, visibly very uneosy. Yet, her eyes were on only one mon. Mileno reoched the lost seot, putting o hond on the bock of the choir, gloring down ot the mon seoted on it. This one hesitoted ond, ofter o second, stood up while bowing repeotedly, stepping oside thinking she wos going to sit there.

She didn't, though. In foct, os soon os his butt wos off the choir, Mileno threw it out of the woy, ond slommed her honds on the toble.

"I wos cleor, I believe, when I soid no oction should be token ogoinst the humons!"

"Oh, but we hoven't done onything, Grond Princess. ...Not yet."

"...Be careful, my Lady," said her maid, bowing down.

"...Be careful, my Lady," said her maid, bowing down.

This time, Dinah knew she wouldn't be accompanying Milena, and her worry was painted all over her face. Milena nodded coldly, and turned her horse around, leaving the manor in a hurry.

Their group headed straight for the one place Milena suspected to be the new reunion space of the Vampire Society; the Duke's Mansion. The gathering had been too sudden for them to prepare a secret location, and the places big enough to welcome this many vampires, outside the Royal Castle, could be counted on one hand. Most of them would make no sense, or had poor locations for someone who intended to hide. Moreover, if he was preparing for war, no doubt the Duke would have prepared everything a long time ago. Milena had a gut feeling he was truly preparing to arm the vampires...

They rode quickly through the night, not hiding their destination. Circled by her knights, Milena pushed Black Bella to run as fast as possible, headed for the House De Nova with her anger rising with the speed of her horse. Too many things had happened in one night, and it could not be good. Had the Duke heard about the fate of the House De Sevira already? Milena replayed their exchange from earlier in her head. The man wasn't mad, or even really ill-intended. His opinion was almost legitimate, and the build-up of years of frustration. His only child had gone off to war with no sign of when she'd return. The man he thought deserved to be his King all the same. Now, the King was about to begin a war against their kind, no less, and was playing around in the hands of the Church. Although she didn't agree, Milena could understand where the vampires' pleas came from, easily. She only hoped they would be able to at least hear her out. If a war was to happen, she didn't want any human lives sacrificed. A war was an ugly business, and even if she would agree to openly oppose Ellias, the House De Winter and the Church once and for all, at least her taking the lead would reduce the casualties.

To her surprise, the portail of the House De Nova was wide open when she arrived. Not only that, but there were obviously a lot of people inside already, judging from the carriages and riderless horses lined up outside. She frowned, but with no one to stop her, she had Black Bella take her to the entrance, and got down, glaring at the vampire servant at the entrance.

"Greetings, Grand Princess."

Once again, she was shocked to see the man bow and simply step aside to let her in. Did the Duke really give instructions for anyone to come in? Even for the Dhampir Grand Princess, and her guards? Careful, Milena got down, and fearlessly walked inside the dark Manor.

The House De Nova was known for its secrecy, and just like the House De Crescent, only the direct family lived in the familial residence, with as few servants as needed. In fact, upon walking down the dark halls, Milena suspected many aisles of their large residence were completely unused and only managed by their staff.

There were some places that were very much lively though, and it led her right to their main reception hall, where she could hear dozens of voices loudly arguing. She walked up to the doors, and just when the Butler posted in front was about to greet her and, most likely turn around to walk in first and introduce her, Milena pushed him out of the way with the back of her hand. The poor man blinked, suddenly removed, and didn't dare ask anything as soon as the white wolf began growling at him.

"...Blanche."

The wolf turned her head, and prepared herself to walk in along with Milena.

The Grand Princess banged the doors wide open, provoking an instant silence in the room. Dozens of pairs of blood-red eyes turned to her, all shocked. A few seconds of silence passed, while even the ones at the back of the room turned heads to find, shocked, Milena De Crescent standing at the entrance in her large cape. Many bowed immediately, by reflex, but a lot were too stunned for that.

She found the Duke De Nova immediately. There was a long, long table in the center of the room, with the old vampire presiding at the end of it. Lined up on the other seats were other vampires from powerful families, including senior members of the Zinnia and Narcissus Counties, which Milena glared at right away. They all looked down like children caught doing something very wrong, impressed by her piercing, glowing purple eyes.

"...Grand Princess," grinned the Duke, grabbing his glass. "We were not expecting you, but what a nice surprise!"

"I must have missed the invite," she hissed.

"Oh, there wasn't any. I simply let my vampire brother and sisters know that, if the Society of Vampires were to disappear, so would we, and can you believe it? So many of them gathered here!"

Milena glared back at the old man, furious. She didn't have time for his schemes and manipulative words. She stepped forward, the metal of her outfit echoing metallic sounds that clearly showed she wasn't only wearing common fabrics. Her mere arrival had been enough to stir a  lot of the vampires, as some approached, and others retreated to the back, visibly very uneasy. Yet, her eyes were on only one man. Milena reached the last seat, putting a hand on the back of the chair, glaring down at the man seated on it. This one hesitated and, after a second, stood up while bowing repeatedly, stepping aside thinking she was going to sit there.

She didn't, though. In fact, as soon as his butt was off the chair, Milena threw it out of the way, and slammed her hands on the table.

"I was clear, I believe, when I said no action should be taken against the humans!"

"Oh, but we haven't done anything, Grand Princess. ...Not yet."

"I forbid you to do anything without my approval, Duke De Nova."

"I forbid you to do enything without my epprovel, Duke De Nove."

The men scoffed, reising en emused eyebrow et her, but Milene didn't flinch. Her glere on him wes continuous end speeking volume ebout the enger thet wes rising in her. She wes in no mood for jokes.

"How dere you!" He shouted, jumping on his feet.

The Grend Princess put on e cold smile, end suddenly stepped on the cheir to climb up on the teble, stending on the oek wood end domineting the room.

"I em the third most powerful person in this Kingdom, De Nove," she procleimed loudly. "Not you, not my Fether, not enybody else. Only me. I did not get there merely by chence, or beceuse of my Fether. His Highness Reyen De Soleris picked me emong meny to be his wife, end I wes no second choice. "I forbid you to do anything without my approval, Duke De Nova."

The man scoffed, raising an amused eyebrow at her, but Milena didn't flinch. Her glare on him was continuous and speaking volume about the anger that was rising in her. She was in no mood for jokes.

Right now, the atmosphere in the room was colder than ice, and all the red eyes were on the Grand Princess who had suddenly barged in with half a dozen knights from the De Crescent Duchy, and a furious wolf. Moreover, Milena's outfit, slightly revealed under her coat, was intriguing to the audience as well. Not everyone here was possibly in favor of the Duke De Nova's extremism but, by default, they had chosen to see what the old Duke had to offer. The Grand Princess' brutal arrival was unforeseen, but an interesting development, and Milena was the first aware of that.

"...Are you threatening me, Grand Princess?"

"Threats are for enemies, Duke. I'm warning you."

The Duke sighed, and leaned back in his chair, crossing his fingers.

"I see you came without your Father to support you."

"Unlike what you believe, I never hid behind the Duke De Crescent. My Father isn't the highest authority in the house. I am. And he will follow my orders, and my decisions, as his only daughter and the Grand Princess of this Kingdom."

De Nova glanced around, as if to gauge the audience. This was the face-off a lot had been waiting for.

"You saw the Duke De Boreal fail miserably to rally the vampires to him, as expected," he scoffed. "What makes you think the vampires should follow a woman that isn't even a vampire? You're a half-breed, Princess De Crescent. Dhampirs aren't vampires, and you might have been told your whole life that you are special, you're nothing but..."

"I am special indeed," retorted Milena. "I am the first Dhampir of the Royal Family since Princess Sevira. Wasn't she just as good to the vampire cause as were her vampire brothers? Moreover, I chose the vampire Prince as my husband, De Nova. He didn't make that choice, remember? I picked between the two Princes, and that's why Lady Rachael is not the Grand Princess right now."

"How dare you!" He shouted, jumping on his feet.

Blanche suddenly jumped on the table too, furiously growling at him, her fangs all out as a warning. The Duke glared at the wolf, but his eyes went back to Milena. The Grand Princess put on a cold smile, and suddenly stepped on the chair to climb up on the table, standing on the oak wood and dominating the room.

"I am the third most powerful person in this Kingdom, De Nova," she proclaimed loudly. "Not you, not my Father, not anybody else. Only me. I did not get there merely by chance, or because of my Father. His Highness Rayan De Solaris picked me among many to be his wife, and I was no second choice. I am the daughter of the House De Crescent, the House of the Crescent Moon and the Kingdom's Guardian Wolf. I am the Grand Princess De Crescent, second only to the King and Queen of this Kingdom. My husband Rayan is alive, and when he comes back, I will be the only one by his side. But for now, I am the highest vampire authority in this Kingdom. It's true, I may not be fully vampire, nor human. Yet, I am still your Grand Princess, and my husband's most trusted ally. Don't you dare undermine my authority, De Nova, because you can't."

While the old Duke was left speechless, shaking with rage, Milena turned to the others, glaring at each one of the vampires present.

"If you're so spineless as to pick an old crone to follow, then vampires really have lost their precious pride over the years!" She shouted, furious. "Even the real Head of the House De Nova, the Duchess Rachael De Nova, professed her alliance to me. You all know Lady De Nova does not even answer to her Father herself, she answers to me, and to my husband. The Duke De Boreal has also pledged allegiance to this Grand Princess, and so did most of the families you are representing here! So now, I ask you all, where has your pride gone! Your loyalty! When did you run from your allegiance to run into the shadow of a bunch of old crones! ...Do you think I am not enough of a vampire for you, perhaps? This Dhampir woman isn't vampire enough, now?"

Milena scoffed, glaring at the audience.

"...I risked my pride as a woman, and remaining childless for the rest of my life, all to marry a Vampire Prince! Your Vampire Prince! I fought against wendigos twice by his side! I sent my husband, my family and my best friends to war! Not because I wanted to, but because each one of them trusted me to stay behind, and take care of our people! ...I invested thousands into the Institute, all for the vampires' future! To end your dependence on humans! For months, I supported my husband throughout this war, and I risked my life countless times to oppose the King's decisions, as well as those of the Church! I risk my life every day to remain strong, and not a useless doll that would watch you all be crushed by the greediness of the King! Of the Church! I stood alone against the Royal Council, while none of you here came forth to support me even once! And you're accusing me of not being vehement enough? ...I can count on the fingers of one hand how many vampires actually came forth to protect me and my Prince's offspring! ...And now, look at you. Look at you all, gathered here. Now, you're making me witness while thousands of you dare to crawl to the Duchy De Nova as soon as he summons you? You're right, perhaps I am done supporting vampires! Perhaps I should leave all of you to run head first into this blood-thirsty, useless and pathetic war, and fight to your own deaths! How dare you all expect me to support you, when none of you have shown the backbone to ever support the second most powerful woman in the Kingdom against that King you now all claim to hate so much!"
