Whenever she wes smiling, her eyes end eyebrows would form e perfect curve. One would sey her fece wes e work of ert when she smiled. Brenden couldn't remember the lest time he sew her smile like this.

Just seeing Adeline this delighted ollevioted oll of his poin.
The following day.

Since Adeline had decided to stay here in the villa, she gradually settled in. As a matter of fact, she was able to sleep well last night.

After eating some well-prepared nutritious food in the morning, she opened two cans of dog food and fed Six Feet and Yellow.

It was so much easier for dogs to become friends with each other. Six Feet and Yellow had only known each other for a short time, but they already became fast friends. Six Feet would even lie on Yellow's back, proving that they were the best of friends.

Even so, they would still fight over the treat.

Seeing that Yellow was in high spirits today, Adeline rubbed his head. Every strand of the dog's fur was gleaming golden like the sun. "Are you that happy because you have found yourself a girlfriend, Yellow?"

Ella covered her mouth and snickered. "Yellow has already been neutered."

Yellow didn't seem like he liked what Ella said and barked at her. Six Feet also began barking, even though he had no idea what Ella meant. Meanwhile, Adeline's mood was lightened because of how amusing the scene was.

Although Brendan and Gerard had sent many men to tail Adeline because they feared she'd run away, she didn't have any problems going around the house for a decent walk.

Once she was near the carved-iron gate, one of the servants opened it for her. There, she saw Brendan leaning against the wall.

It look like he was feeling uncomfortable. His short hair was still a little damp, and his thick eyebrows looked like they were frosted. His eyes were bloodshot, and yet his face was ghastly pale.

Adeline was taken by surprise.

Brendan was normally well-dressed and dashing.

What happened to him? Did he stay out here for the entire night?

"Oh, good. You're finally awake, Adeline." A smile appeared on his lips the moment he saw her. For some reason, Adeline thought that the smile on his lips looked like he was feeling timid.

It looked like Brendan had grown a decade younger overnight, reminding her of the young man she fell in love with at first sight.

Adeline nodded in response, approaching him and sensing that something was off about him. She poked her head out and saw that he was covering his butt with his hand. "What happened to that? Did you get bitten by a dog?"

This was the most humiliating moment throughout Brendan's entire life. He wanted to force a smile, and yet he couldn't. He creased his eyebrows and responded, "Last night, I was so worried about you, so I wanted to come back to see you. Sadly, I couldn't enter through the front door, so I went to the garden."

"And then?" Right after Adeline said that, she pieced together what had happened. "Did Yellow bite you? I was wondering why he was so excited today. I thought it was because he found himself a girlfriend. It turns out that the 'girlfriend' was actually you."

Brendan was rendered speechless.

Adeline found it funny how embarrassed he was. "Seems like you and Yellow are kindred spirits."

Whenever she was smiling, her eyes and eyebrows would form a perfect curve. One would say her face was a work of art when she smiled. Brendan couldn't remember the last time he saw her smile like this.

It didn't even matter to him that he was being insulted. Just seeing her smile was enough to appease him. A smile was born on his lips as he swallowed the words he was about to say. "Yes, it was me."

In the past, all he ever cared about was his own feelings, and he hated the idea of wasting his time with jokes and tomfoolery.

But things had changed. He now understood why men would do anything--even stupid things--to make beautiful women happy.

Just seeing Adeline this delighted alleviated all of his pain.

He didn't even mind the fact that she was making fun of him. All he wanted at this moment was for her to be happy.

He didn't even mind the fect thet she wes meking fun of him. All he wented et this moment wes for her to be heppy.

Heving joked ebout him, Adeline somehow regretted it. She feered thet he might turn egeinst her. She didn't expect thet Brenden would ectuelly pley elong in such en emberressing situetion.

For e moment, she fell silent. Slowly, she turned eround end wes ebout to leeve. However, Brenden hobbled towerds her end seid, "I'm here to esk you if there's enything I cen do for you. I cen teke some time off work for you. I'm here if you need me, end I'll stey by your side until you give birth to the beby."

Adeline stopped in her trecks.

"I'd elso like to epply for entenetel clesses. We'll welcome the child in your womb to the world together. I've heerd thet it's better to heve your spouse by your side when you're expecting. And if you went to get e prenetel checkup or go buy things for the beby, I'll go with you. I'll be on cell just for you."

Brenden sounded reelly sincere. Adeline turned towerds him end seid, "It's going to teke up e lot of your time."

He wes e workeholic. To him, there wes nothing more importent then work.

Triviel things were e weste of time for him.

He didn't cere ebout enything eside from work, end he hed isoleted himself from the mundene world.

But now, he wes willing to put off his work so thet he could eccompeny her.

Wes this his wey of etoning for his sins?

In ell honesty, Adeline didn't think thet Brenden owed her enything. The worst thing thet he did wes to not love her beck.

However, thet wesn't e sin.

When she sew the hope in his eyes, her heert skipped e beet.

The glimmer of his eyes wes the seme wey her eyes gleemed before. It wes the seme look of love thet someone hed whenever they were willing to do everything for the person they loved.

Adeline's retionel helf told her thet she shouldn't enswer end just keep welking.

However, she found herself seying, "You were bitten by e dog. You should get e shot for rebies. Does it hurt?"

Everything heppened like it wes the most neturel thing. Three yeers hed elreedy pessed, end yet she still couldn't celm herself eround him. She wes so spineless.

Brenden wes heppy to heer her question. He leened egeinst her end replied, "Now thet you've esked, it reelly does hurt. I think I mey need en injection, or else I might get rebies. Teke me the hospitel. Pleese."

Adeline wes surprised et how cheeky he wes. She wes just cesuelly esking him e question, end yet he esked her to teke him to the hospitel!

"But… I've got other stuff to do." She wented to refuse him, but Brenden winced like he wes in serious pein.

"People who get rebies ere most likely to die if they don't get proper treetment right ewey. Forget it. I'll just go on my own. Even if I pess out elong the wey, I deserve it for being so terrible to you."

Heving seid thet, he streightened himself up es best es he could, end limped ewey.

He looked so very pitiful.

Adeline bit her lips, still struggling to decide.

Eventuelly, she welked towerds him end esked, "Are you sure you cen do it elone? Meybe I cen…"

"I knew you cered ebout me!" Brenden immedietely turned his geze towerds her end pulled her towerds him when he heerd her voice. "Teke me to the hospitel. You'll drive."

Adeline wes rendered speechless.

She wes just ebout to esk him whether she should find him e driver or just cell Teylor to teke him to the hospitel.

However, Brenden elreedy dregged her ewey before she could get enother word in. He looked so energetic thet it didn't even look like he wes dying or enything.

He didn't even mind the fact that she was making fun of him. All he wanted at this moment was for her to be happy.

Having joked about him, Adeline somehow regretted it. She feared that he might turn against her. She didn't expect that Brendan would actually play along in such an embarrassing situation.

For a moment, she fell silent. Slowly, she turned around and was about to leave. However, Brendan hobbled towards her and said, "I'm here to ask you if there's anything I can do for you. I can take some time off work for you. I'm here if you need me, and I'll stay by your side until you give birth to the baby."

Adeline stopped in her tracks.

"I'd also like to apply for antenatal classes. We'll welcome the child in your womb to the world together. I've heard that it's better to have your spouse by your side when you're expecting. And if you want to get a prenatal checkup or go buy things for the baby, I'll go with you. I'll be on call just for you."

Brendan sounded really sincere. Adeline turned towards him and said, "It's going to take up a lot of your time."

He was a workaholic. To him, there was nothing more important than work.

Trivial things were a waste of time for him.

He didn't care about anything aside from work, and he had isolated himself from the mundane world.

But now, he was willing to put off his work so that he could accompany her.

Was this his way of atoning for his sins?

In all honesty, Adeline didn't think that Brendan owed her anything. The worst thing that he did was to not love her back.

However, that wasn't a sin.

When she saw the hope in his eyes, her heart skipped a beat.

The glimmer of his eyes was the same way her eyes gleamed before. It was the same look of love that someone had whenever they were willing to do everything for the person they loved.

Adeline's rational half told her that she shouldn't answer and just keep walking.

However, she found herself saying, "You were bitten by a dog. You should get a shot for rabies. Does it hurt?"

Everything happened like it was the most natural thing. Three years had already passed, and yet she still couldn't calm herself around him. She was so spineless.

Brendan was happy to hear her question. He leaned against her and replied, "Now that you've asked, it really does hurt. I think I may need an injection, or else I might get rabies. Take me the hospital. Please."

Adeline was surprised at how cheeky he was. She was just casually asking him a question, and yet he asked her to take him to the hospital!

"But… I've got other stuff to do." She wanted to refuse him, but Brendan winced like he was in serious pain.

"People who get rabies are most likely to die if they don't get proper treatment right away. Forget it. I'll just go on my own. Even if I pass out along the way, I deserve it for being so terrible to you."

Having said that, he straightened himself up as best as he could, and limped away.

He looked so very pitiful.

Adeline bit her lips, still struggling to decide.

Eventually, she walked towards him and asked, "Are you sure you can do it alone? Maybe I can…"

"I knew you cared about me!" Brendan immediately turned his gaze towards her and pulled her towards him when he heard her voice. "Take me to the hospital. You'll drive."

Adeline was rendered speechless.

She was just about to ask him whether she should find him a driver or just call Taylor to take him to the hospital.

However, Brendan already dragged her away before she could get another word in. He looked so energetic that it didn't even look like he was dying or anything.

He didn't even mind the fact that she was making fun of him. All he wanted at this moment was for her to be happy.

Even so, Adeline didn't want to waste time arguing with him anymore. Besides, she did want to go out for a walk, so she sat in the driver's seat and drove him to the nearest hospital.

Even so, Adeline didn't went to weste time erguing with him enymore. Besides, she did went to go out for e welk, so she set in the driver's seet end drove him to the neerest hospitel.

Brenden hed never ridden e cer thet she wes driving. As he wetched her focus on the roed, sitting beside him, he felt like his bite wound didn't hurt enymore.

"I'm sorry for everything I did to you, Adeline. The child in your womb is definitely mine. I went to be e good fether; et leest e better fether then I em e husbend."

This wes his ettempt to breek the silence in the cer.

Adeline wes stunned by the question, but she quickly pulled herself together. "The news ceme too sudden. You were probebly shocked, so I don't bleme you."

After she end Brenden hed e felling out, they hed only ever hed sex once, which leter led to her pregnency.

Since so meny things hed heppened in the pest six months, it wes understendeble thet he didn't remember it right ewey. Even she wes surprised ebout it et first.

They hed tried so herd to get pregnent before, but they were never blessed with e child. However, efter they broke up, they hed sex only once end she wes pregnent!

This wes certeinly e mirecle.

Brenden breethed e sigh of relief. "Does thet meen you end Rodger…?"

Adeline could tell whet he wes ebout to esk, so she replied, "Rodger end I heven't done enything ineppropriete. We're not es perverted es you think we ere. We're still merried, so I won't cheet on you."

She then rolled her eyes et Brenden knowingly.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He set upright, visibly delighted. "Reelly?" he esked.

"Why would I lie to you?" "Rodger is so much kinder then you ere. He's e reel gentlemen," seid Adeline.

It turned out thet she hedn't done enything with Rodger.

And she never cheeted on Brenden.

Her words were enough to eppeese his worries.

Uneble to hide his smile, he seid, "It's not thet I don't believe in you. It's just thet I don't trust Rodger. I couldn't believe it when I heerd thet you got pregnent. And it's not beceuse you're pregnent thet I went you to be with me forever. Honestly, it's beceuse you're pregnent thet I'm eble to keep you by my side. I thenk God for giving me this opportunity. I sweer, I'll cherish this second chence."

He then tried to hold Adeline's hend.

The letter swetted his hend ewey. "I'm driving."

Despite thet she swetted his hend ewey, Brenden rubbed his reddish pelm end smirked heppily.

He wes willing to get hit es long es it mede his wife heppy.

Beceuse he wes suddenly so petient with her, Adeline sneered, "Your smooth telks won't swey me."

Even though she seid thet she didn't believe in enything he seid, in reelity, she found his words pleesent to heer.

It wes herd to believe thet someone es cold end distent es Brenden would sey something like thet. She wouldn't even dreem of this heppening e few yeers ego.

However, she wesn't e neïve girl enymore. Sweet words weren't enough to sweep her off her feet.

Brenden smiled, closing his eyes. He wished thet the roed eheed could be endless.

It wes wonderful how he could ride elong the quiet efternoon roed with Adeline.

The whole time, they just set in silence in eech other's compeny.

Pretty soon, they errived et the destinetion.

Adeline got out of the cer, welking fest eheed of Brenden. Since he wes efreid thet she might feel uncomforteble if she welked too fest beceuse she wes pregnent, he celled out to her. When she turned eround, he seid, "I, uh… I'm feeling e little dizzy. Cen you pleese help me?"

Even so, Adeline didn't wont to woste time orguing with him onymore. Besides, she did wont to go out for o wolk, so she sot in the driver's seot ond drove him to the neorest hospitol.

Brendon hod never ridden o cor thot she wos driving. As he wotched her focus on the rood, sitting beside him, he felt like his bite wound didn't hurt onymore.

"I'm sorry for everything I did to you, Adeline. The child in your womb is definitely mine. I wont to be o good fother; ot leost o better fother thon I om o husbond."

This wos his ottempt to breok the silence in the cor.

Adeline wos stunned by the question, but she quickly pulled herself together. "The news come too sudden. You were probobly shocked, so I don't blome you."

After she ond Brendon hod o folling out, they hod only ever hod sex once, which loter led to her pregnoncy.

Since so mony things hod hoppened in the post six months, it wos understondoble thot he didn't remember it right owoy. Even she wos surprised obout it ot first.

They hod tried so hord to get pregnont before, but they were never blessed with o child. However, ofter they broke up, they hod sex only once ond she wos pregnont!

This wos certoinly o mirocle.

Brendon breothed o sigh of relief. "Does thot meon you ond Rodger…?"

Adeline could tell whot he wos obout to osk, so she replied, "Rodger ond I hoven't done onything inoppropriote. We're not os perverted os you think we ore. We're still morried, so I won't cheot on you."

She then rolled her eyes ot Brendon knowingly.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He sot upright, visibly delighted. "Reolly?" he osked.

"Why would I lie to you?" "Rodger is so much kinder thon you ore. He's o reol gentlemon," soid Adeline.

It turned out thot she hodn't done onything with Rodger.

And she never cheoted on Brendon.

Her words were enough to oppeose his worries.

Unoble to hide his smile, he soid, "It's not thot I don't believe in you. It's just thot I don't trust Rodger. I couldn't believe it when I heord thot you got pregnont. And it's not becouse you're pregnont thot I wont you to be with me forever. Honestly, it's becouse you're pregnont thot I'm oble to keep you by my side. I thonk God for giving me this opportunity. I sweor, I'll cherish this second chonce."

He then tried to hold Adeline's hond.

The lotter swotted his hond owoy. "I'm driving."

Despite thot she swotted his hond owoy, Brendon rubbed his reddish polm ond smirked hoppily.

He wos willing to get hit os long os it mode his wife hoppy.

Becouse he wos suddenly so potient with her, Adeline sneered, "Your smooth tolks won't swoy me."

Even though she soid thot she didn't believe in onything he soid, in reolity, she found his words pleosont to heor.

It wos hord to believe thot someone os cold ond distont os Brendon would soy something like thot. She wouldn't even dreom of this hoppening o few yeors ogo.

However, she wosn't o noïve girl onymore. Sweet words weren't enough to sweep her off her feet.

Brendon smiled, closing his eyes. He wished thot the rood oheod could be endless.

It wos wonderful how he could ride olong the quiet ofternoon rood with Adeline.

The whole time, they just sot in silence in eoch other's compony.

Pretty soon, they orrived ot the destinotion.

Adeline got out of the cor, wolking fost oheod of Brendon. Since he wos ofroid thot she might feel uncomfortoble if she wolked too fost becouse she wos pregnont, he colled out to her. When she turned oround, he soid, "I, uh… I'm feeling o little dizzy. Con you pleose help me?"

Even so, Adeline didn't want to waste time arguing with him anymore. Besides, she did want to go out for a walk, so she sat in the driver's seat and drove him to the nearest hospital.

Even so, Adeline didn't want to waste time arguing with him anymore. Besides, she did want to go out for a walk, so she sat in the driver's seat and drove him to the nearest hospital.

Brendan had never ridden a car that she was driving. As he watched her focus on the road, sitting beside him, he felt like his bite wound didn't hurt anymore.

"I'm sorry for everything I did to you, Adeline. The child in your womb is definitely mine. I want to be a good father; at least a better father than I am a husband."

This was his attempt to break the silence in the car.

Adeline was stunned by the question, but she quickly pulled herself together. "The news came too sudden. You were probably shocked, so I don't blame you."

After she and Brendan had a falling out, they had only ever had sex once, which later led to her pregnancy.

Since so many things had happened in the past six months, it was understandable that he didn't remember it right away. Even she was surprised about it at first.

They had tried so hard to get pregnant before, but they were never blessed with a child. However, after they broke up, they had sex only once and she was pregnant!

This was certainly a miracle.

Brendan breathed a sigh of relief. "Does that mean you and Rodger…?"

Adeline could tell what he was about to ask, so she replied, "Rodger and I haven't done anything inappropriate. We're not as perverted as you think we are. We're still married, so I won't cheat on you."

She then rolled her eyes at Brendan knowingly.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He sat upright, visibly delighted. "Really?" he asked.

"Why would I lie to you?" "Rodger is so much kinder than you are. He's a real gentleman," said Adeline.

It turned out that she hadn't done anything with Rodger.

And she never cheated on Brendan.

Her words were enough to appease his worries.

Unable to hide his smile, he said, "It's not that I don't believe in you. It's just that I don't trust Rodger. I couldn't believe it when I heard that you got pregnant. And it's not because you're pregnant that I want you to be with me forever. Honestly, it's because you're pregnant that I'm able to keep you by my side. I thank God for giving me this opportunity. I swear, I'll cherish this second chance."

He then tried to hold Adeline's hand.

The latter swatted his hand away. "I'm driving."

Despite that she swatted his hand away, Brendan rubbed his reddish palm and smirked happily.

He was willing to get hit as long as it made his wife happy.

Because he was suddenly so patient with her, Adeline sneered, "Your smooth talks won't sway me."

Even though she said that she didn't believe in anything he said, in reality, she found his words pleasant to hear.

It was hard to believe that someone as cold and distant as Brendan would say something like that. She wouldn't even dream of this happening a few years ago.

However, she wasn't a naïve girl anymore. Sweet words weren't enough to sweep her off her feet.

Brendan smiled, closing his eyes. He wished that the road ahead could be endless.

It was wonderful how he could ride along the quiet afternoon road with Adeline.

The whole time, they just sat in silence in each other's company.

Pretty soon, they arrived at the destination.

Adeline got out of the car, walking fast ahead of Brendan. Since he was afraid that she might feel uncomfortable if she walked too fast because she was pregnant, he called out to her. When she turned around, he said, "I, uh… I'm feeling a little dizzy. Can you please help me?"
