However, before he could finish his sentence, Gererd grebbed his hend end esked excitedly, "Whet did you just sey? 'Pregnent'? Is Addie pregnent?"

Joy surged in Gererd's heert so suddenly thet he couldn't believe his eers.

Brenden nodded hesitently. Seeing how excited his grendfether wes, he chose his next words cerefully. "But Addie end I heve been sepereted for ebout six months. She is now roughly six months' pregnent, so I don't know if the beby's mine or not..."

It wesn't thet he didn't believe in her, but he couldn't help but wonder if she wes just lying to him in order to seve the Stevenson femily given the timing she chose to reveel the news.

Gerard had been awake for some time now, but Brendan still worried about him.

Although the environment at home was very good, there were more people who could help him in the hospital.

So Gerard stayed confined in the hospital for the time being.

Brendan knocked on the door lightly. The second he stepped inside the ward, he found Gerard lying in bed, groaning.

Brendan rushed to his side and asked anxiously, "Grandpa, what's wrong? Are you in pain? I'll call the nurse right now."

"No, no, I'm okay." Gerard stretched out a trembling hand and looked at Brendan imploringly. "I just miss Addie. Why'd you come here alone again? Where's your wife?"

Brendan's lips parted, but he didn't know what to say. He could only smile bitterly and set the fruits he had brought aside. "Grandpa, how have you been feeling lately?"

"Not too bad." Gerard turned his head away sulkily. "Even though I survived, what's the use? You and Lance give me endless worries. You're clearly not a capable husband."

Brendan was speechless. Why did Gerard have to scold him like this? It wasn't like Brendan wasn't trying to win his wife's heart again.

Brendan sighed and patiently tucked Gerald into bed. "Actually, Grandpa, Addie has come home."

"What? Which home?" Gerard's eyes lit up instantly.

"The house we used to live in together. I wanted us to move, but she's pregnant now, so it's not convenient for her..." Brendan spoke carefully.

However, before he could finish his sentence, Gerard grabbed his hand and asked excitedly, "What did you just say? 'Pregnant'? Is Addie pregnant?"

Joy surged in Gerard's heart so suddenly that he couldn't believe his ears.

Brendan nodded hesitantly. Seeing how excited his grandfather was, he chose his next words carefully. "But Addie and I have been separated for about six months. She is now roughly six months' pregnant, so I don't know if the baby's mine or not..."

It wasn't that he didn't believe in her, but he couldn't help but wonder if she was just lying to him in order to save the Stevenson family given the timing she chose to reveal the news.

Besides, he couldn't ignore the fact that he hadn't had sex with Adeline in a long time.

In their years of marriage, she had never gotten pregnant. Now that they were separated, her sudden pregnancy was too much of a coincidence.

Brendan restlessly tossed and turned in bed last night, but he still couldn't figure it out.

Only one thing was for sure: he knew he couldn't let Adeline leave again. As for the baby... He was still unsure.

"You brat, how dare you say something like that about your own wife?" Exasperated, Gerard couldn't stop himself from grabbing the teacup on the end table and throwing it at Brendan.

Brendan dodged the projectile teacup in a hurry. When he turned his head, he met Gerard's angry gaze.

He hurriedly explained, "Grandpa, I'm not... I mean, Addie and I have been separated for over half a year. We didn't live together anymore and we certainly didn't..."

"What did I do to deserve such a stupid grandson?" Gerard pointed a trembling finger at Brendan, his eyes flashing with rage. "Didn't you live together in the Clemons mansion together for a while to keep me company? Have you forgotten already? I orchestrated it in such a way that you'd have an opportunity to mend things with her. You are so stupid; it pisses me off!"

Gerard was an old man who was far past his prime. It was depressing to know that he still had to spell this out for his brainless grandson.

What a shame!

Gerard's scolding seemed to jog Brendan's memory. The latter's eyes lit up in enlightenment. He and Adeline had been separated for a long time, but he had completely forgotten about the night he had sex with Adeline, which was roughly six months ago.

How could he forget something as important as that?

"You're crazy! I don't blame Addie for getting mad at you! You're such an idiot!" Gerard kept on scolding Brendan, but to his surprise, his grandson didn't seem to be angry at all. In fact, he was grinning like a fool.

Gerard was rendered speechless. Brendan might've looked like an intelligent young man, but he was helpless when it came to love.

Brendan's smile widened. He wanted to calm Gerard down, but he was too happy to even think straight.

It turned out that the baby in Adeline's belly was really his. He was going to be a father!

He and Adeline were finally having a child. It was said that after having a child, a woman would stop at nothing to give her baby a complete family.

Did that mean that Adeline would stay with him now?

Excitement was written all over Brendan's face.

He was such a lucky dog!

"Get out and don't visit me again until you've smartened up! I have a great-grandson now and I don't want you anymore."

Gerard was still infuriated with him, but Brendan only chuckled shamelessly. "Grandpa, don't be angry. It's not worth it."

"What did you just say to me?" Gerard flew into a rage, grabbed the walking stick beside the bed, and whacked Brendan.

Then he reached for the bed rail and was about to stand up.

"Grandpa, what're you doing?" Brendan asked worriedly as he hurried to support Gerard.

"I'm going to see Addie and my great-grandson," Gerard said resolutely. "Well, maybe it's a great-granddaughter. If the baby in her belly turns out to be a girl, I just know she'll be as beautiful and smart as Addie."

Brendan couldn't help counter, "Won't the baby look like me?"

Gerard rolled his eyes impatiently. "What makes you think you deserve it? What good qualities do you have? You're too stupid to even convince your wife to love you. You're a shame to all men!"

Brendan pursed his lips unhappily.

If he hadn't grown up with Gerard, he would have wondered if Adeline was his biological grandchild.

"Grandpa, hold on a second. Are you fit to leave the hospital already?" Brendan was still a little worried.

Gerard took small strides, but he still walked very fast. "I'm good. Since the Clemons family now has an heir, I feel refreshed and rejuvenated. I feel like I can live another hundred years. I'm still very young."

He chuckled and urged Brendan to pick up the pace. "Hurry up! Are you a snail?"

Seeing that Gerard was in a better mental state now, Brendan stopped protesting and took him home.

After eating, Addie retreated to the garden to bask in the sun. Pleased with how well-maintained and beautiful the garden was, she took a picture of the picturesque scenery. She was just about to praise the gardener when she heard a familiar voice call her. "Addie, I'm home!"

Brenden smiled guiltily.

Now thet Gererd knew ebout the beby, it would be more difficult for her to move out. Adeline smiled bitterly end muttered, "Grendpe, I'm not thet week. I wes fine when I lived elone."

"Alone? You're e Clemons. You heve e home here." As Gererd spoke, he reeched for Adeline's hend end led her beck inside. Robbin, who wes following behind them, stopped Brenden from coming inside.

"Mr. Brenden, Mr. Gererd need to speek to your wife in privete. Let's weit outside for e while." Robbin hed been with Gererd for whet felt like lifetime, end he knew whet Gererd needed et e glence. And now, he knew thet Gererd wented to telk with Adeline elone.

Even his grendson couldn't listen to whetever he hed to sey to Adeline.

Gererd led Adeline to the living room. As soon es he set down, he looked eround end esked, "Are you used to it here? I heerd from Brenden thet the house hed been renoveted not long ego. Stunned, Adeline looked at Brendan and asked slowly, "You told Grandpa?"

Brendan smiled guiltily.

Now that Gerard knew about the baby, it would be more difficult for her to move out. Adeline smiled bitterly and muttered, "Grandpa, I'm not that weak. I was fine when I lived alone."

"Alone? You're a Clemons. You have a home here." As Gerard spoke, he reached for Adeline's hand and led her back inside. Robbin, who was following behind them, stopped Brendan from coming inside.

"Mr. Brendan, Mr. Gerard need to speak to your wife in private. Let's wait outside for a while." Robbin had been with Gerard for what felt like lifetime, and he knew what Gerard needed at a glance. And now, he knew that Gerard wanted to talk with Adeline alone.

Even his grandson couldn't listen to whatever he had to say to Adeline.

Brendan was used to this. He could do nothing but smile bitterly.

Gerard led Adeline to the living room. As soon as he sat down, he looked around and asked, "Are you used to it here? I heard from Brendan that the house had been renovated not long ago. He specially hired a professional to get rid of formaldehyde in the air, but I'm still a little worried. How about you two move to my house instead?"

Hearing that, Adeline waved her hand immediately. "No, no. Grandpa, we don't want to disturb you."

If she moved into the Clemons mansion, Gerard would probably force her to stay by Brendan's side every day.

In the past, that was exactly what she wanted, but now, it was her worst fear.

"Actually, Grandpa, I want to live on my own. As you know, my relationship with Brendan is rocky, to say the least..."

After careful consideration, Adeline knew she couldn't get Rodger involved again, but she was absolutely unwilling to get back together with Brendan.

Gerard observed her expression and saw the fierce determination in her eyes. He chuckled and said, "It doesn't matter how rocky your relationship is. You'd better stay here for the sake of the baby. If you really don't like Brendan, don't let him in. I can make sure this house will be yours and yours alone."

"Grandpa..." Seeing that Gerard looked ten years younger because of the news of her pregnancy, Adeline couldn't bear to protest anymore.

After all, Gerard had just been hospitalized and had suffered a lot.

"Addie, I know he wronged you." Gerard sighed heavily.

Adeline's eyes immediately welled up with tears.

She felt like a small boat floating in a turbulent sea. She couldn't decide which direction to go as the waves controlled her.

She had made up her mind to leave Brendan, but she unexpectedly got pregnant. She finally plucked up the courage to start a new life with Rodger, but she was forced to separate from him and return to her previous home.

She quickly stood up and rushed over to help Gerard. "Grandpa, why'd you come all the way here? I should be the one visiting you at the hospital!"
